Most of the Windows To The Past photos I create are of buildings which are still around, but once in a while I come across a great old photo of a building that is long gone. I found this photo in the Library of Congress archives and knew I wanted to use it, but I had no idea where it was. I did a lap through town and didn’t find it, so I thought maybe it had been remodeled or torn down.
I lucked out when another photo in the same collection showed both this building and the one on the left. It’s definitely gone, as town records show the present building was built in 1960, but I have not found any history on this building or the businesses we see in it.
Here we have a photo from November 1940 of R. Goldman Groceries and S. Kalmonwitz Fresh Fish, at the present location of Golden Crossings Embroidery (formerly where Fairy Tales was located, at 125 Lebanon Ave.)

The 1940 photo is by Jack Delano and is part of a collection in the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division.
