Weekly Photo – Bacon Wrapped Cheddar Tots
For about 3 years the subtitle for this blog has been “Photography, Family, & Food”, yet with 70 posts not 1 has actually involved food! Well, other then photographing strawberries a while back, but I don’t think that counts. So today we finally start up a new category, with Bacon Wrapped Cheddar Tots. These little bacon wrapped wonders were excellent.
This idea came from NoblePig.com, but I swapped out the jalapenos for cheddar cheese and baked them instead of fried:
The Tater Tots were first thawed, then placed in the center of a 4″ strip of bacon, topped with a slice of cheese, wrapped, and pierced with a toothpick. I baked them on a tray which had a primary goal of keeping them out of the bacon grease, but the holes also worked perfectly to keep them upright by putting the toothpicks through the holes.
I think the next time (there WILL be a next time) I’ll try a few with jalapeno, but also a few with a different cheese. Sharp cheddar was a little too strong and I think they need a cheese which melts better. Any suggestions?
I may also have to try frying them like Cathy at NoblePig did – hers look incredibly crispy.
